MCSD Announces K-6 Redistricting Project - Your Feedback Needed in Survey
K-6 Redistricting Project
Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, Middletown City School District (MCSD) will modernize the K-6 experience for students to better support their growth and success.
In partnership with Woolpert, a trusted leader in education planning and design, MCSD is reimagining the future of its elementary schools. This includes reconfiguring elementary buildings to house kindergarten through sixth grade and updating attendance boundaries for the first time since 2011. This process will ensure that MCSD continues to meet the needs of all students, families, and the community as we look toward the future.
The primary goals of this K-6 redistricting project are to ensure:
- Student success through a strong sense of community. MCSD strives to offer a seamless learning experience from kindergarten through sixth grade to positively impact academic and emotional well-being.
- Students attend their neighborhood schools. Attending a neighborhood school promotes greater parental involvement and a stronger support system for students. Students experience shorter commutes, leading to lower transportation costs and more time for learning, extracurricular activities, and family engagement.
- Optimal utilization of our district resources and facilities. Balancing enrollments across schools enhances operational efficiency, ensuring optimal use of resources and facilities for a more effective learning environment.
This project will update MCSD’s attendance boundaries for the first time since 2011. Since then, MCSD has experienced fluctuating enrollments and population densities. This is a crucial step in making sure MCSD is planning for the future and continuing to provide the best possible learning environments for students.
We Need Your Feedback
MCSD understands that changes to school boundaries can be sensitive, and we will approach this with care and consideration for all our families. Woolpert will be assisting us in gathering data and input from our community to ensure the final plan reflects our values and needs. The first step is a criteria survey, which you can complete by clicking here. The purpose of this survey is to collect initial input that will be used to develop boundary options throughout the process.
Your input is critical to this effort and will help ensure we create a solution that meets the needs of our students, families, and the entire Middie community.
Please note that no decisions have been made at this point. This survey is meant to kick off the redistricting process, and your feedback will be used to begin drawing boundary options with community values and desires in mind. All community members will have additional opportunities to provide feedback in person.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure the success of our students.
