Teachers Troy Rees and Becky Parsons Honored with Virginia Shaffer Award
Middletown City School District Teachers Troy Rees and Becky Parsons were honored as the recipients of the prestigious Virginia Shaffer Award.
The annual award was established in 1961 by the then President of the Middletown Board of Education Mr. Joseph Woodruff. It was created in memory of his sister, Virginia Shaffer, a beloved local educator.
Administered by the Middletown Teachers Association (MTA), the award continues to recognize outstanding contributions within the teaching community.
Becky Parsons, a teacher at Amanda Elementary, was nominated by 13 fellow teachers for the award. She has been active with the MTA since the beginning of her 34-year career, which she spent the entirety of at MCSD. Parsons is set to retire at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
Troy Rees, a teacher at Middletown Middle School, was recognized for two decades of service and his involvement with more than 25 committees.
Both teachers have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence in Middletown's educational community, and have advocated for teachers' rights and professional development.
