Dear Middie Family,

I would like to address a disturbing trend that has emerged in our region. For the second time this week, we have faced a social media threat directed at our school buildings. Middletown City School District has a zero-tolerance policy for threats of violence, regardless of whether they are intended as a joke or to cause disruption. These actions carry serious consequences, including felony charges—no matter the age of the student involved.

The safety of our students and staff will always be our main priority. We are working closely with the Middletown Division of Police to investigate the most recent threat involving Middletown Middle School and Middletown High School, and those found responsible will be held fully accountable for their actions. Law enforcement officials believe the most recent threat is part of a nationwide trend involving a spam Snapchat image circulating on Instagram and TikTok. Please let this be an opportunity to remind your students to report concerning content, instead of reposting it.

I want to also remind everyone of the importance of the "see something, say something" principle. If you or your child become aware of any suspicious behavior or potential threats, please report them immediately. We all play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our children.

We will continue to take swift and decisive action to ensure our schools remain safe places for learning.

Thank you for your continued vigilance and support. We look forward to seeing your children in school tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Deborah Houser
Superintendent
Middletown City School District
