Middletown High School is embarking on an exciting journey with its High School Redesign project, the culmination of Middletown City School District's Passport to Tomorrow initiative. It's the next step in the district's focus on career exposure, preparation, and readiness.
This project represents a comprehensive shift in educational strategy, aiming to make high school more relevant, engaging, and supportive of each student's path to success in their career, college, military service, and life. It's an initiative that prioritizes the development of both academic excellence and practical skills, preparing students to navigate the complexities of the modern world.

New Changes You'll Notice
- New course catalog with a Career Field focus: Students will choose one of six career fields to guide their learning, supported by aligned staff teams.
- Redesigned schedules: Introduction of an experiential learning schedule, piloted during the 2024-2025 school year with professional development and data collection.
- Online scheduling system for course selection and career pathway election will be implemented.
- Embedded Experiential Learning: Integration of project-based learning and real-world applications.
- A MyUSA Credit Union campus location.
- Re-opening of Middie Common Grounds, a student-run coffee shop.
Timeline of the Project
The high school redesign will be initiated with the incoming 9th-grade class in the 2025-2026 school year, with successive introduction to each new freshman class.
2023-2024 School Year:
- Goal Refinement: Middletown leaders, teachers, and students united to enhance the high school experience, emphasizing collaborative learning and individual growth.
- Strategic Alliances: The team joined forces with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, utilizing state resources to bolster our educational strategies.
- Ideation and Experimentation: We embarked on a mission to trial new educational concepts, tapping into a wealth of knowledge and innovative practices.
- Collaborative Insights: We engaged with educators across the country, visiting schools in other states to learn from their innovations. Together with local colleges and businesses, we used these insights to develop a more advanced educational framework.
- Engaging the Community: Updates were regularly shared, valuable feedback was sought, and students' voices were heard to continually refine Middletown High School.
2024-2025 School Year (where we are now):
- Continuous Enhancement: We will continue to expand and improve upon our new approach to high school to boost both school and community success.
- Strategic Development: We are committed to introducing new and innovative educational practices through partnerships to help us keep our curriculum up-to-date and engaging.
2025-2026 School Year:
- Launching our Plan: Middletown High School will roll out a new and innovative student experience for all incoming 9th-graders, focusing on pathways to a career, college, and the military.
- Building on Success: Middletown High School commits to extending our groundbreaking educational model from 10th through 12th grades, perpetuating the journey of innovation in education.
