Message from the Superintendent
Dear Middletown Families:
In the past week, schools around Ohio - and across the country - have been hit by acts of vandalism that appear to be inspired by a trend on the social media app TikTok. This trend encourages people to steal or damage school property. Our high school alone has had many such incidents, including restroom vandalism and threats of violence towards our students and staff.
This is completely unacceptable in any school, and we will certainly not tolerate it in our district. We take a great deal of pride in our schools and we will continue to ask students to come forward with any information about the vandalism and threats.
We ask that parents and guardians speak to their students about this trend to ensure they understand that it isn’t funny; these situations will be investigated and students will be subject to disciplinary, and possibly criminal, consequences. These behaviors go against our Middie Culture and we ask parents to monitor their student(s) social media accounts, talk to them about appropriate behaviors, and responsible and respectful cell phone use.
That being said, we also know that the vast majority of students do the right thing every day, are proud of their school, and grateful for their teachers and custodial staff. Should your student(s) have information regarding who might be threatening the high school and/or damaging district property, please have them reach out to their building principals or a trusted adult.
To be clear, we will not tolerate this type of criminal behavior and disrespect to our schools and staff. We appreciate your help in addressing these behaviors.

La semana pasada, las escuelas de Ohio, y de todo el país, se vieron afectadas por actos de vandalismo que parecen estar inspirados en una tendencia en la aplicación de redes sociales TikTok. Esta tendencia anima a las personas a robar o dañar la propiedad escolar. Solo nuestra escuela secundaria ha tenido muchos incidentes de este tipo, incluido el vandalismo en los baños y las amenazas de violencia hacia nuestros estudiantes y personal.
Esto es completamente inaceptable en cualquier escuela y ciertamente no lo toleraremos en nuestro distrito. Estamos muy orgullosos de nuestras escuelas y continuaremos pidiendo a los estudiantes que presenten cualquier información sobre el vandalismo y las amenazas.
Pedimos a los padres y guardianes que hablen con sus alumnos sobre esta tendencia para asegurarse de que comprendan que no es graciosa; estas situaciones serán investigadas y los estudiantes estarán sujetos a consecuencias disciplinarias y posiblemente criminales. Estos comportamientos van en contra de nuestra Cultura Middie y les pedimos a los padres que controlen las cuentas de redes sociales de sus estudiantes, hablen con ellos sobre los comportamientos apropiados y el uso responsable y respetuoso del teléfono celular.
Dicho esto, también sabemos que la gran mayoría de los estudiantes hacen lo correcto todos los días, están orgullosos de su escuela y agradecidos por sus maestros y el personal de mantenimiento. Si sus estudiantes tienen información sobre quién podría estar amenazando a la escuela secundaria y/o dañando la propiedad del distrito, pídales que se comuniquen con los directores de su escuela o con un adulto de confianza.
Para ser claros, no toleraremos este tipo de comportamiento delictivo y falta de respeto a nuestras escuelas y personal. Agradecemos su ayuda para abordar estos comportamientos.
