MCSD Welcomes Dr. Donetrus G. Hill as New Middletown High School Principal

Middletown City School District (MCSD) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Donetrus G. Hill as the next principal of Middletown High School (MHS).
Dr. Hill brings over 15 years of experience as a high school administrator and most recently served as the Community Superintendent for Jeffco Public Schools in Golden, Colorado. A seasoned educational leader, he is known for his commitment to building educator capacity, advancing research-based instructional strategies, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
As principal, Dr. Hill will spearhead MHS’s ambitious redesign initiative—an integral component of the district’s broader effort to transform the high school experience. This work aligns with the district’s Passport to Tomorrow strategic vision, which focuses on preparing students for success in a rapidly evolving world.
In a statement, Dr. Hill shared his excitement about joining the Middie family:
"It is a true honor to serve as the next principal of Middletown High School—a school with heart, pride, and a deep commitment to its students. As Middies, we will lead with high expectations and a strong sense of accountability, supported by a culture of care, resilience, and growth. Our focus will be on accelerating academic development and ensuring every student is prepared to thrive in college, career, and life. I believe in the power of teacher leadership, student voice, and community partnership, and I look forward to building a future where every Middie has the necessary tools and support to succeed in a complex, ever-changing, diverse world."
Superintendent Deborah Houser also expressed her enthusiasm for Dr. Hill’s arrival:
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Donetrus G. Hill to Middletown City Schools as the next principal of Middletown High School! As we embark on the transformative redesign of the high school experience, Dr. Hill’s visionary leadership will play a pivotal role in turning our bold goals into reality. He brings a profound passion for student success and a strong commitment to cultivating meaningful relationships—core values that are at the heart of Middletown City School District’s Passport to Tomorrow strategic vision. Together, we are reimagining what’s possible for our students, and I’m eager to see how Dr. Hill will help lead Middletown High School into this exciting new chapter.”
Approved by the Board of Education on April 14, Dr. Hill will officially step into his new role on August 1, 2025. He will take over for Principal Carmela Cotter, who announced her retirement earlier this school year, after serving MCSD for more than three decades.
