Familiar Face Returns to Middletown City Schools as K-12 Programs Coordinator

Michelle Peterson is returning to Middletown City School District (MCSD) to serve as the district’s next K-12 Programs Coordinator.
Peterson brings over thirty years of experience in public education and a deep connection to Middletown. She began her teaching career at MCSD in 1991 as a fifth-grade teacher. Decades later, she returned to MCSD as the principal of Creekview Elementary, where she led the school from 2018 to 2021. Most recently, Peterson has been serving as the principal of Heritage Elementary School in Princeton City Schools, where she has continued to build her reputation as a dedicated educational leader.
Keri Hensley, Senior Director of Curriculum, expressed her enthusiasm for Peterson’s return: “We are thrilled to welcome Michelle Peterson to our Curriculum Team! She returns to Middletown bringing a wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences. Her strong connections within the city will be instrumental in advancing our Passport to Tomorrow program and strengthening partnerships with local businesses.”
In her new role as K-12 Programs Coordinator, Peterson will oversee three key initiatives: the English Learner (EL) program, the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, and the district’s innovative K-12 Passport to Tomorrow program, which prepares students for success in their career, college, military service, and life.
Peterson shared her enthusiasm as well:
“I’m beyond excited to return to Middletown City Schools for a third time! It truly feels like coming home, and I can’t wait to reconnect with so many familiar faces and continue building on the great work we've done together in the past.”
“Each time I’ve had the privilege of being part of this community, I’ve learned so much from the students, staff, and families. The energy in Middletown is contagious, and the commitment to making a positive impact is something I deeply admire. I’m so eager to continue that journey and contribute even more to the growth and success of this district.”
“What excites me most about stepping into the new role of K-12 Programs Coordinator is the opportunity to collaborate more closely with staff to create meaningful, impactful programs for our students. I’m excited to help shape new initiatives that support both student growth and staff development. I look forward to finding innovative ways to support our community and working together to make a difference.”
Approved by the Board of Education on March 24, Peterson will officially begin her new role on August 1.
