Experiential Learning Pilot at Middletown High School
Dear MHS Parents and Guardians,
We have some exciting news! We are ready to launch our Experiential Learning Pilot at Middletown High School as part of our ongoing High School Redesign Project. This pilot will allow for experiential learning to occur in every classroom by way of a modified schedule.
Beginning on September 16 and running through October 25, the Experiential Learning Pilot will run for six weeks.
What are the changes?
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays:
- The school day will follow our current 8-period schedule. There will be no changes on these days.
Wednesdays:
- Only periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 will meet; each class has 90 minutes for experiential learning opportunities.
Thursdays:
- Only periods 2, 4, 6, and 8 will meet; each class has 90 minutes for experiential learning opportunities.
Why are we doing this?
The Experiential Learning time provides the foundation for unique activities, hands-on projects, in-depth discussions, and creative learning experiences. Experiential Learning time will allow for deeper engagement and exploration of topics.
This pilot will allow the redesign team to gather feedback from students and staff. The feedback will then be used to inform the team of next steps as we prepare to run a shorter, three-week pilot during the second semester from January 27 to February 14. This gives us time to reflect and make any necessary adjustments to ensure future success.
Attendance:
Where attendance is extremely important every day, it is especially important during our pilot.
What’s next?
After evaluating both Experiential Learning Pilots, the redesign team will make informed decisions about potential future scheduling changes that benefit our students’ learning experience.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to enhance the educational opportunities for all of our students.
Sincerely,
Carmela Cotter
Principal
